The difference between Western and Chinese artists will be a difference in lived narratives and modes of available influence. Distinctive opinions upon conceptions of " imitation" and " influence" respectively ascribed to Chinese and Western artists, not only form a particular artists'world as well as a special artistic tradition, but also sculpt two philosophical shapes of art history widely divergent. However, modernism, alike in China and the West, meant the dismantling of these narratives and reconstitution of our relationship to the past. Modernity in artists" soul means questioning the accepted authority rather than worships tradition ; furthermore, they turn to a cultural criticism. Nevertheless, there remains a kind of specious self - condemnation, which results a loss in specific beauty and particular idiosyncrasy once possessed by national arts.
