摘要
情爱与外在一切限制性力量的关系并非简单的水火不容,而是一种悖论性的存在。本文以《荆棘鸟》中拉尔夫与麦琪的爱情为例,指出疼痛是人与自我沟通的一个媒介,因为痛苦迫使受难者更专注于痛苦本身而忘却更多的欲念,达到净化。人内心的这种悖论而奇妙的体验,使外在禁锢造成的巨大痛苦成就了爱情的恒久与伟大。也就是说,一旦外界的束缚消失之后,伟大的爱情的可能性也就终结了。
Affections and constraints are mutually inclusive in a paradoxical manner rather than literally incompatible. Take the love of Ralph and Meggie in the novel The Thorn Birds for example, pains caused by the outer world, which is a way that individual gets in touch with oneself, concentrating on the aching and therefore neglecting and even abandoning extra desires and then approaching to purification, in order to make eternal love, which by nature is impossible, possible. Or, once the constraints vanish, great love and affection will exterminate.
