摘要
国内高校英文版网站的翻译效果不尽理想。主要问题不是英文语言质量,而是中国高校网站在作者和读者关系、内容和形式关系的处理上与英美高校网站有较大差别,导致英译后的网站在英美文化里“水土不服”。本文采用内容分析研究手段,用纽马克的文本类型理论框架对中美两国最著名高校的网站进行对比后,发现中国高校网站普遍比美国高校网站包含更多的表达型和呼唤型文本。通过对几位外教的聚焦访谈,本文提出高校网站英译应该采用信息型文本直译、表达型文本改写,呼唤型文本尽量删除的策略。
Chinese university English websites have less optimal translation quality. Linguistic quality is no longer an issue. The main reason for the incompatibility of these websites with Western cultures is the different way they deal with author-reader and content-form relationships as compared to Western university websites. This study uses the content analysis methodology to examine Chinese and American university websites in the framework of Peter Newmark' s text type theory. It was found that Chinese university websites have significantly more vocative text pages than American university websites. After a focus group discussion with several English native speakers, a strategy is proposed for translating Chinese university websites into English: informative texts are to be translated directly; expressive texts are to be modified and vocative texts are to be discarded entirely.
