The urban electric network construction and retrofit including distribution system automation has been put on the agenda along with the development of electric power industry. The relationship between urban electric network construction, retrofit and distribution system automation, thier mutual support and intergrated optimization, and the potential effects of power market and power-electronics technology are analyzed and discussed in this paper.
