本文从女性主义的角度出发,对亨利.詹姆斯的《贵妇画像》中女主人公伊莎贝拉的悲剧命运进行解读,从伊莎贝尔的性格、女性当时的社会地位和作者自身方面的原因进行分析,指出在当时的父权制社会中,女性争取自由和独立的努力无异于漩涡中的挣扎。
