1938年探访安阳殷墟

A Visit to Yin Ruins in Anyang

这是英国学者S.Howard Hansford在1949年1月10日的一次学术会议上宣读的论文,后刊于1951年出版的Transactions ofthe Oriental Ceramic Society:1948-1949(即《东方陶瓷学会学报》1948～1949年版)。原文名为"A Visit to An-Yang"(访问安阳),以一个西方学者的视线记录了在中研院史语所发掘者离开之后、新中国学者进驻之前殷墟遗址的状况。在殷墟80余年的考古历程中,抗日战争时期的殷墟几乎是一段空白。本文译者长期在中国社科院考古研究所安阳队工作,将该文译成中文,告诉我们一个客观的1930年代未期的安阳。

In Jan 10th,1949,S.Howard Hansford,a British Scholar,presented a paper in an academic conference,which was later published in 1951 in Transactions of the Oriental Ceramic Society:1948-1949.The original name of the paper was A Visit to An-Yang,which was a record of the condition of Yin Ruins from the perspective of a western scholar during the Anti-Japanese War,after the withdrawl of the archaeologists from the Institute of History and Philology of Academia Sinica before its takeover by scholars from the newly-founded People's Republic of China. The translator,who has been working in the Anyang Fieldwork Team affiliated to the Institute of Archaeologist, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,found the article and translated it into Chinese,which presented us a true Anyang in the late 1930s.
