Shu Wu's "Turning his Coat" and Exploration of the Origin of his Thought

舒芜是1955年胡风事件中的关键性人物,他在事件当口的特殊表现一直是学界争论的焦点话题。舒芜从最初结识胡风和在《希望》上发表《论主观》,到运动中走向"倒戈",期间思想形成和转变的状况颇为复杂。今天冷静下来进行较为细致的心理探源和思想过程描述,对于我们廓清并深入理解这段历史,认识并反思建国前后知识分子的精神状态颇有意义。

Shu Wu was a pivotal figure in Hu Feng case in 1955, whose unusual performance at the critical moment of the case has remained a focal topic in Chinese academic world. Shu got in contact with Hu Feng when he published the paper On Subjectivity in Hop, but he turned his coat in the movement against Hu. During that phase of time he experienced an extremely complicated process in shaping and changing his mind. Nowadays, a relatively meticulous psychological exploration and description of the process of his mental struggle are of great importance to our effort to scrutinize this period of history and understand and reflect the mental state of intellectuals in pre-and-post-liberation days.
