Modernization Transition of Tertiary Education for 21st Century China

在中国现代化的进程中，高等教育起着举足轻重的作用，而它本身也在进行着深刻的现代形态变革。21世纪将是人才竞争的世纪，高校人才培养模式必须依此而构建，即实现由相对独存走向融入世界，由科学为主兼重人文培养，由道德教育引入科技伦理，从倚重专业进于综合适应，自共性约束转向个性激励。

Tertiary education, which plays a significant role in China's modernization process, is undergoing profound formtional changes. The 21st century will be a century of competition for talen, and the pat-tern of training in institutions of higher learning must be reshaped accordingly, involving changes from be-ing self contained to being fused into the the world, from concentration on science to commitment to humanities so as to furnish a scientific base for ethics education, from reliance on specialization to reliance on comprehensive abilities to adapt to changes, and from a general character constraint to individuality stimulation.
