The differentiation of be-passive and get-passive is discussed by a lot of linguistic professors and students. The idea of this paper is that meaning is so central to language that it must be a primary focus of study while linguistic structures serve the function of expressing mean- ings. This paper uses the historical point of view to analyze the usage of get-passive. That is, the passive use of "get" is developed from the inchoative use. Besides, the author tries to use ICM (idealized cognitive model) theory proposed by Lackoff and EICM (event of ICM) which is put forward by Croft to analyze the differentiation of be-passive and get-passive cognitively. Also this paper gives other differences between the use of be-passive and get-passive in detail. By this paper, the author aims to make clear the difference between the usage of be-passive and get-passive in order to give some help to the high school or college English teachers to explain the difference between the two.
