A complex [1 pheny 3 methyl 4 propionyl 5 pyrazolonate(PMPP) terbium](1) is synthesized and characterized by FT IR spectrum. Its crystal structure is determined by X ray diffraction method. The compound belongs to monoclinic crystal system and P2 1/c space group. The cell parameters are: a =17.481(7) , b =12.837(3) , c =18.397(9) ; β =101.04(3)°; V =4 052(2) 3; Z =4; D x =1.526 Mg·m -3 ; R =0.064, Rw =0.073. The complex is mononuclear and the central terbium ion is coordinated by eight oxygen atoms to form a square antiprism coordination polyhedron.
