A Study on the "Three Outstanding Natives of Peking" and Their Works

"北京三杰"在新、旧唐书中均有记载,其指富嘉谟、吴少微、谷倚。谷倚的作品今已佚,而富吴二者流传至今的作品也不多,仅能就其现有篇章而论其大概风貌。其中富、吴二人创"富吴体",为时人所重,"富吴体"以儒家经典为本,力求务去齐梁之华丽词藻,强调作品要内容充实,回归秦汉骈散相间的文风,在武周时期以"上官体"占主导地位的绮丽文坛中,可谓别调新风,对初唐文风的转变起到了一定的作用。

There are in the new and old books of the Tang dynasty records of the ＂Three Outstanding Natives of Peking＂,referring to FU Jia-mo,WU Shao-wei,GU Yi.The works of GU Yi could not be found today.The works by the two of FU and WU that have come down are not many.So the discussion of general features of their works is carried out on the basis of the existing texts.The ＂FU-WU Style＂ created by the two of FU and Wu draws great attention from the contemporaries.Such a style is based on Confucian classics,trying to do away with the flowery words and expression popular in the Qi and Liang dynasties,emphasizing that writings should be substantial in content,returning to the style with paralleled and non-paralleled sentences.During the Zhou dynasty ruled by Empress WU Ze-tian,when the ＂shangguan style＂ was dominant in the literary circle,the new style plays an important role in making changes in the literary style during the beginning period of the Tang dynasty.
