Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was a great philosopher, whose language thought has always been a hot research subject across Europe. The language thought of Leibniz is closely interconnected with his other philosophical theories including Monadism and Kadar Harmony. The fact that Leibniz was one of the most influential and well-learned scholars on Chinese characters then in Europe and that he had spent almost his entire life attempting to create a set of ＂characteristica universalis＂ based on them, makes Chinese scholars＇ research on his work especially meaningful. However, the significance of language thought of Leibniz is not confined merely in the realm of linguistics but extended far beyond it, which signifies his brilliance and outshines the theories of Ferdiand de Sausure and Noam Chomsky.
