赫德与英国

Hart and Britain

赫德为英国人,他效忠于英国,是人之常情,理之当然。但他效忠英国常常是从英国的长远利益着想的,而英国政府往往是从英国当前的利益着想的,于是,赫德与英国政府也往往因为意见不同而发生矛盾、冲突。赫德对英国政府,英国驻华公使及领事的不满形诸笔墨者也比比皆是。

Hart was British and it was understandable that he was loyal to Britain.But his loyalty was in for the long-term benefit of Britain while the British government jus considered its present benefit.So he often ran into conflict with the British government.His dissatisfaction with the British government and the British ambassadors to China often found expression in publications.
