There exist 19 letters written by Qiu Fengjia during the time when he was trying to defend Taiwan against Japanese. These letters are a true record of the early phase when he was organizing volunteers to resist Japan and defend Taiwan. Researching the dates, objects and main content of these letters can reveal some valuable historical information which can deepen the understanding of later generations of the role of the Taiwan Volunteer Army in resisting Japan and defending Taiwan following the 1894 Sino-Japanese War and help solve some mysteries about Qiu.
