The Practice of Promoting Regional Ethnic Autonomy in the Early Days of New China and Its Implications

民族区域自治,是中国共产党正确处理中国民族问题的一项基本政策,是中华人民共和国的一项基本政治制度。本文通过回顾和研究新中国初期党在新疆实行民族区域自治的成功实践及其启示,认识到中国共产党和新中国第一代领导人高瞻远瞩,为新中国民族政策确定了正确的方向,奠定了坚实的制度保障。这段历史对我们的民族工作至今依然有着现实的指导意义。

Regional ethnic autonomy is the CPC＇s most fundamental policy for handling ethnic affairs and one of China＇ s basic political systems. By reviewing and studying the successful practice of the Party promoting regional ethnic autonomy in Xinjiang in the early days of New China and its implications, this paper comes to the conclusion that the CPC and the first generation of leadership of New China showed great foresight in their efforts to handle the ethnic issues. Their efforts determined the correct orientation of the ethnic policy of New China, laid a solid institutional foundation. The history of this period is still of practical guiding significance for the ethnic initiatives even today.
