理论意识与理论建设——《红与黑》汉译讨论的意义

An Inspiration of Theoretical Awareness in Translation Assessment and Research——On the significance of the dispute over Chinese translations of Le Rouge et le Noir

上世纪九十年代围绕《红与黑》汉译展开的大讨论,对中国翻译界产生了深远的影响,时至今日,仍留给我们诸多的思考与启迪。本文通过回顾此次世纪大讨论在翻译的道德批评、文学翻译理论与实践的结合、深化对文学翻译及翻译批评的认识、文学翻译批评形式的拓展、对翻译批评者素质的要求以及翻译的理论意识的建设等六方面的贡献,阐明其在文学翻译的理论意识与理论建设上的积极作用,和对我国的文学翻译与文学翻译批评事业发展的指导意义。

This paper argues that the nationwide debate, in the 1990s, about the Chinese translation of Stendal＇ s Le Rouge et le Noir was a significant, historic event. The event has drawn attention to the ethical aspect of translation and inspired Chinese scholars with theoretical awareness in their translation research and criticism. It is and will long be remembered for its contribution to the building of new scaffoldings for Chinese translators and critics to perform, translation criticism. To a remarkable degree, it provoked thinking, on the part of the then enthusiastic reading community of foreign literature, about literary translation.
