The paper analyses the second epistle of Pope＇ s Moral Essays--＂ Epistle to a Lady＂, going deep into the characters ofwomen and the internal connection with their moral attributes, therefore expounds the Golden Mean thought with its specific connotations in Pope＇ s poems. Including in the moral merits of Pope＇ s thought of the Golden Mean are those elements such as continence, moderation, decorum and good sense, and its central meaning is ＂propriety＂. The Golden Mean in Pope＇ s poems expresses the moral values and the moral ideals of balance, reason, nature, harmony and order aspired by the 18th century England.
