This paper uses eco-criticism and archetypal criticism to analyze the hero's recovery from trauma in Ceremony and the different views of separation and holism in trauma healing. Traditional Western medicine, to be more acceptable in non-Western cultures, must take into account the specific historical and cultural contexts of these cultures. The view of holism in native American myth about the unity of man and gods, man and nature, and man and man is not restricted to native American medicine, but forms the basis for the development of any culture and tradition.
