英年早逝的庞统号称"凤雏",虽然无论是在史传、戏曲还是小说中,他与"卧龙"孔明都无法并驾齐驱,但是,在庞统身上寄寓着其他重要的意义:一者他是作为诸葛亮在现实生活中的对比与古今谋士在文学作品中的参照物而存在的;二者他是蜀汉政权甚至是《三国演义》悲剧的一个组成部分;三者围绕他的描写可以理析出三国故事素材流变的一条脉络。

Partly due to his untimely death,Pang Tong can never rival Zhuge Liang in history,dramas,or novels.However,the image of Pang Tong bears more significance.First,as a wise person in real life,he serves both as a reference for Zhuge Liang and other advisors in literature.Secondly,he is an integral part of both the Shu regime and the tragedy in The Romance of Three Kingdoms.Furthermore,the portrait and narration of this figure may also contribute to the knowledge of how the stories and anecdotes of the Three Kingdoms evolved and took shape as in both the novel and the unofficial history.
