《文选》的编辑宗旨是"选学"中一个极为重要的问题。"便来学之省览"、"作为辨析文体、指导写作的范文"、"为宣传萧统的折衷派文艺政策服务"、"对前代文学进行全面总结"与"为满足疾病缠身的昭明太子的赏读需要"等说均似非《文选》的编辑宗旨。对《文选序》与《文选》进行综合考察的结果是,《文选》的编辑宗旨当只有一个,即为方便读者阅读与欣赏内容雅正、形式华美的作品。昭明太子酷爱文籍的生活情趣与南朝统治上层爱好文学风气的盛行,是《文选》得以编辑的主要原因。

The aim of ＂Wenxuan＂ compilation is an important thing in the ＂xuanxue＂.The aims differ greatly.＂It is convenient for readers to read more＂,＂it offers ＇model works＇ for analyzing the style or for a writing guide＂,＂it serves for publicizing Xiao Tong＇s eclectic literary policies＂,＂it offers a summary of literature in the past time＂,＂it meets the reading needs of sick Prince Zhao Ming＂.After an all-round analysis ofWenxuan andThe Preface of Wenxuan,there is only one aim to compileWenxuan,i.e.,it is convenient for reading and appreciating the model works.The fact that Prince Zhao Ming is fond of Classical Books and the dominate hierarchies in the Southern Dynasties are keen on literature is the main reason for compilingWenxuan.
