The chapter of ＂Jia Rui＇s Death＂ in the novelA Dream of Red Mansions is one of the early narratives about death.Though this chapter is just a ＂flash in the pan＂,it has rich value implications.Jia Rui＇s obsession with lust-an erotic quagmire and his doom,is not only a warning for those indulging in lust,but also one of the causes for the decline of the Jias.The story displays WANG Xi-feng＇s psychology,speech acts,cruelty and sinister characteristic.Meanwhile,it indicates her strategies for doing things.Chapter ＂Fengyue Mirror＂ is the beginning of the narrative thread of the decline of the Jias,and it concerns the concept of lust and nothingness.As a result,the author CAO Xue-qin confirmed metaphorically the theme of universe and life.
