摘要
哈里.莱文把《一个青年艺术家的肖像》称作艺术家小说,因为它结合了传统和现代主义的艺术技巧。这部小说是乔伊斯从自然主义传统转向现代主义意识流小说的过渡之作。因此乔伊斯大量借助现代主义的技巧来刻画内心的真实,为他后来的意识流巨作《尤利西斯》在意识表现技巧上奠定了基础。在这些技巧中,印象主义技巧的运用恰到好处地把外部的客观现实和人物真实内心感觉有机融合。本文从言辞重述、光色运用、片段式的叙述等方面来详细分析乔伊斯印象主义美学的应用。
Harry Levin defines A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man as a Künstlerroman,since it synthesizes the natu-ralist tradition with the artistic techniques of modernism.As James Joyce’s first long fiction composed before his experimenta-tion with Steam of Consciousness in his canonical masterpiece,Ulysses,A Portrait embraces a lot of modernist painting tech-niques in order to reveal what avant-garde writers believed as "the ulterior reality".Impressionist techniques are one of them applied in the text to assimilate both objective externality and subjectivist interiority.Specific analysis will go to the verbal iteration,the color and light effects,and the fragmented narrative.
