On Social Change and Intellectuals' Role:A Survey of Modern Spiritual Tradition as the Center

精神传统是社会文化的重要组成部分,对于维系社会正常运转具有不可替代的作用。它在一国社会中体现为价值体系及其物质承担者的紧密结合,形成一股支撑社会的力量。价值体系及其物质承担者本来作为精神传统的外在彰显,在古代社会中是高度统合的。然而,自近代"五四"运动以来却遭到了全盘性反传统主义和政党伦理的挑战,这导致了现代精神传统偶发性的中断与紊乱。现代精神传统面临着内在和外在的双重困境,这给型塑现代中国的政治、经济、文化与社会带来了一系列的问题,甚至对于其自身也构成颠覆性的威胁。虽然在现代中国得到了某种程度的缓解,但其面临的形势依然严峻。危机与希望并存,现代中国新文明正可肇基于此。

Modern spiritual tradition is an important part of social culture,for it plays an irreplaceable role in maintaining the normal operation of our society.It is embodied in the close combination of material stakeholders and value system,because of which it could form a supporting forces.Value system and its material stakeholders have been demonstrated as an external exhibition of spiritual tradition,which has been integrated in a high degree in ancient societies.However,since the modern ＂May Fourth Movement＂,modern spiritual tradition has been overthrown by the overall anti-traditionalism and Party ethic challenges until political parties come out,which led modern spiritual tradition to an interrupted and sporadic disorders.Modern spiritual tradition faces the dilemma of internal and external,which brought about a series of problems to the shaping of modern politics,economics,culture and society,even grew a subversive threat to itself.Although the threat in modern China has been released in some degree,it still faces a grim situation.Crisis and hopes coexist,on both of which modern Chinese new civilization will be rebuilt.
