This paper conducts a detailed analysis of the relationship between Spenser＇s sonnet sequence Amoretti and the Petrarchan sonnet tradition with the origin of sonnet as the starting point.The author concludes that Spenser makes an innovative combination of the tradition and his individual talent in Amoretti by observing the tradition in its structure and biographical significance while transcending the tradition in its metrical form,theme,characterization and use of some traditional conceits.
