This paper analyses Saul Bellow's Humbodt's Gift , with a brief summarization of his writing career. In the novel, two Jewish-American writers Humboldt and Charlie are chosen as typical protagonists with distinctly different characters, forming a sharp contrast of two generations. The life and fate of the American artists are reflected and a true American society is unfolded before the readers.
