Ever since 1949,Eileen Chang experienced a typical mental course of writers on exile, thus being an important case for the study of exile literature in East Asia.Intending to explore Zhang's mental course of adapting to the times by revising her works, this paper, from the perspective of 'exile in the country',analyzes different versions of Eighteen Springs and Xiao I written by Zhang with the penname Liang Gin.It is found that though she had resigned herself to the status quo superficially, she was still out of accord with the times as both her spiritual world and literary pursuit deviated from the leading trend of the times, giving her works as well as herself a tinge of exile.
