HOU Ren-zhi——With the Urban Planning of Beijing

侯仁之先生半个多世纪一直参与北京城市规划建设,他从历史环境入手研究北京城,主编的《北京历史地图集》,成为北京史、北京地理和北京城市研究的基础。他关注北京城市生命线——水源的变迁与保护,提出北京城的演变表现在从莲花池水系向高梁河水系的迁移,莲花池水系是北京城的发源地,北京西站的建设应当尊重和保护这一水源及其历史环境,这一设想已经变成现实。他提出我国加入世界遗产公约的提案,构建北京丰厚遗产走向世界的平台,为北京的城市规划与建设做出了巨大的贡献。

Professor HOU Ren-zhi has been participating in the urban planning of Beijing more than half a century.He researches the city of Beijing in the terms of historical environment.Historical Atlas of Beijing edited by Mr.HOU which becomes the main foundation for the research of Beijing＇s history,geography,and the city.He pays more attention to the conservation and change of the river and the lakes and explains the relationship of river systems between the Lianhuachi Lake and the Gaoliang River,which is closely connected with the evolution of the old city of Beijing.He suggests conserving the Lianhuachi Lake in the process of the construction for the West Train Station of Beijing,which has come true.He opens the way to the world for the cultural heritage of Beijing.He has made a great contribution to the urban planning and construction of Beijing.
