Wu Jiaji and Diehard Poets in Dongtao

吴嘉纪在明清鼎革之际选择了归隐山林,吟诗终身。他隐居的东淘(今江苏省东台市)又是当时遗民聚居的地方,在那里,那些性情相投、经历相似的遗民们找到了自己的精神家园,他们结社于淘上,诗酒唱和,相互安慰,踟躇于乱世中。东淘遗民诗群的存在是他们的幸运,也是清初文坛上的一道风景,在清初结社运动风行的大环境下,他们也唱出了自己的遗民心声。吴嘉纪无疑是这一群体中的重要人物,他的诗才和成就奠定了他的领袖地位。

Wu Jiaji chose lived a secluded life in countryside and creating poems for the career of his rest life during the dynastic changes from the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.At that time,Dongtao,the place Wu Jiaji lived his secluded life in and nowadays is called Dongtai city of Jiangsu Province,was a place where many diehard poets lived in.In the place,those poets who were congenial to each other and had similar experience found themselves spiritual homeland.In Dongtao,they formed a poet group to make response to each other with writing and drinking,to comfort each other and to cheat themselves and avoid the reality in the turbulent society.Diehard Poets in Dongtao,whose existence was these poets’ fortune,was a landscape in the literary world at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty.In the beginning of the Qing Dynasty,the movement of forming poets’ groups became popular.Under this circumstance,these poets’ poems represented the Ming Dynasty’s adherents’ views and wills.It is no doubt that Wu Jiaji was a key people of these groups and his poems and achievement decided his leading position.
