Pursuit for Perfection——on Carrie's Maturity in Perspective of Motivational Psychology

尽管德莱塞笔下的嘉莉妹妹一直以来就是一个饱受争议的人物,可正是她那一个个强烈的欲望动机激发她需要的产生,潜能的发挥,并走向自我实现。动机是推动行为的动力,需要是动机产生的基础;而潜能是个体需要产生的基础。从动机心理学的理论视角,来分析嘉莉的欲望动机对其成长的促进作用。

Although Sister Carrie in Dreiser＇s novel has been arousing disputes,it is the strong desires and motivations she possesses that have ignited her needs,exert her potentials and finally pushed her towards self-realization.Motivations are the drive for behaviors while needs are the bases of motivations and potentials are the bases individual needs.This paper tries to analyse the promotional functions of Carrie＇s desires and motivations on her maturity.
