Where were the Chinese Ancient Sculptors and What Had They Done to Sculpture?

摘要 在中国古代美术门类中,雕塑创作可谓工程繁重、数量浩大、品种众多。无论质量还是数量,雕塑在各种造型艺术中占绝对压倒优势。这是因为:①中国是唯一完整的保持自身文化传统而没有中断的文明古国,源远流长的文化为雕塑的发展铺设了厚实的河床。②中华大地幅员辽阔,无论地上还是地下都散布和蕴藏着大量的雕塑遗存。③雕塑艺术总是与构成它的材料合为一体,只要材料还在,哪怕是残缺或受损,雕塑也就存在。 In the Chinese ancient art,sculpture creation is a huge project,requiring a tremendous amount of work with a variety of forms.Both in quality and in number,sculpture takes overwhelmingly predominance among various plastic arts.The emperors and officials of every dynasty in history were well aware of the Tao of "No splendor,no dignity".Obviously,sculpture works are the extremely important instrument on the historical stage,except that the sculptors have no chance to show up on the stage.Their miserable fate of being forlorn and lonely is indeed bitterly disappointing.Therefore,we are wondering where the Chinese ancient sculptors and what they had done to sculpture.It is undoubtedly necessary to sort out their final destination of art,their patterns of behavior and social status.
