篮球规则与篮球运动相辅相成,互相促进。2008年执行的国际篮球联合会新规则对"8秒规则"、"球回后场"、"队员跌倒地面"、"干扰球"、"违反体育道德犯规"、"技术犯规"等方面进行了重大修订,使规则更接近NBA规则,体现了FIBA规则与NBA规则的进一步统一。通过修改规则,使得篮球比赛更具流畅性、观赏性,使比赛的安全性、连续性、公平性、竞技性得以加强。
