摘要
《红楼梦》作为一部中国文学经典,书中的文化意象比比皆是。中外文化间的差异使得文化意象翻译成为《红楼梦》翻译过程中公认的难题。杨宪益夫妇和霍克斯在翻译《红楼梦》中十二首菊花诗时,尝试以各自不同的方式对诗中出现的诸多文化意象进行翻译。杨译主要采取直译的方式,直接准确地再现原文的字面意义;霍克斯对文化意象采用灵活的处理方式,尽可能地排除理解障碍,同时保证译文的审美趣味和可读性。
As a classic in Chinese literature,Dream of the Red Chamber presents the reader various cultural images.Since cultural distinctions exist between China and other countries,cultural image translation has become difficult in Chinese-English translation.Yang Hsien-yi Gladys Yang and Hawkes attempt to use their respective methods to translate the cultural images when they translate chrysanthemum poems.Yang mostly adopts literal translation method to represent the literal meaning directly and accurately.Hawkes makes use of flexible coping methods to remove comprehensive barriers as far as possible and to ensure aesthetic taste and readability of the text.
