The Necessity and Possibility of Theoretical Integration of Sociolinguistic Researches

社会语言学的理论问题既不是没有理论,也不是没有一个统一的理论,而是有很多理论以及没有理论的研究彼此交织而形成的混乱状态。因此,有必要对社会语言学研究进行理论整合。鉴于社会语言学研究内容的繁杂多样与难以界定,最现实的不是要建立一个统一的理论,而是应该加强不同理论之间的比较与分析,增强彼此之间的联系,从中整合出更具概括性和解释力的理论来,以尽可能减少现有理论的对立与混乱。

The theoretical problem of sociolinguistics is not having, no theory or no integrated theory, but having too many subtheories and researches which are disorganized. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate theoretically sociolinguistic researches. Since the sociolinguistic issues are complex and hard to be defined, the most feasible thing is not to develop a integrated theory but to do more comparisons and analyses among those different theories, and to strengthen their inter - relationships. Thus, we can conclude more general and scientific theories to reduce these contradictions and isolations among existing theories.
