Recently,a scientific statement about triglycerides （TG） and cardiovascular disease was released by the American Heart Association. This statement updated clinicians about the increasingly crucial role of TG in the evaluation and management of cardiovascular risk and highlighted approaches aimed at minimizing the adverse consequences of high TG levels. The purpose of this article is to review and update the knowledge about the factors that influence TG measurements include postural effects, phlebotomy-related issues, and nonfasting state, standardization of the methods of TG determination,and the treatment of elevated TG levels include therapeutic lifestyle change and pharmacological therapy.
