钱大昕作为清代著名学者,不仅在史学、语言文字学、历算学、校勘学等诸多领域成果丰硕,而且在金石考据学方面也是成就卓著。在其有关著作中,钱氏详确地阐释了诸多深涩难懂的金石文献的文本意义,归纳并揭示了多项金石文献的行文惯例,考察并说明了某些重要的金石文献的真伪与完缺,并进而利用金石文献的考索成果,补正了传世典籍的阙误。他的学术成果与研究方法推动了清代金石考据学的长足发展,对后世的学术进步产生了积极而深远的影响。

As a famous scholar in the Qing Dynasty, Qian Da-xin accomplished great achievements not only in the fields of history, linguistics, astronomy, and ancient text emendation, but also in epigraphy. In his writings, he explained accurately and in detail the textual meanings of many obscure ancient inscriptions and identified many writing conventions in such inscriptions. He also identified the authenticity and intactness of inscriptions and fur- ther corrected mistakes and bridged the gaps in some classics by applying his discoveries in epigraphic studies. His academic achievements and research method significantly promoted the development of epigraphy in the Qing Dynasty epigraphy and have exerted positive and far-reaching effects on academic studies ever since his time.
