On Relativity of Translation Equivalence from Idiom Translation

根据翻译等值的基本理论和观点,以习语的翻译研究为切入手段,从语义、形式、语用、风格和文化五个方面研究和分析习语在中英翻译中的差异来论证翻译等值的相对论,其价值在于通过重要独特的语言材料——习语,证明翻译等值的相对性。

This study, aiming at investigating the relativity of translation equivalence through studies ofidiom translation, adopts the basic theories and viewpoints of translation equivalence as the foundation for a theoretical framework, and with idiom translation as a cutting point, analyzes and explores the relativity of translation equivalence from several different points by analyzing differences of idiom translation between Chinese and English. By using the crucial language materials--idioms, this paper yields the valuable find-ing： Translation equivalence is actually relative.
