功能翻译理论下的苏州市公示语翻译失误探析

An Error Analysis of Suzhou Public Signs Translation from the Perspective of Functional Translation Theory

公示语是宣传城市文化的一项重要内容。在国际化程度越来越高的苏州,公示语的翻译显得尤为重要。然而历史文化名城苏州在公示语的翻译方面仍存在着一些误差。本研究根据功能翻译理论,对收集的苏州市公示语英译实例进行了分析。苏州市公示语翻译失误主要表现为语用、文化、语言、特定文本等方面。公示语的翻译必须按照忠实、连贯和目的法则。规范的公示语能更好地推广苏州文化,突显苏州应有的文化底蕴。

Public signs are important means to popularize the urban culture.With the increasing internationalization of Suzhou,the translation of public signs becomes particularly important.However,there are various errors in the English version of the public signs.In light of functional translation theory,this article analyzes examples of public signs translation in Suzhou and concludes that errors in public signs translation are mainly pragmatic,cultural,linguistic and specific text translation errors respectively.The translation of public signs must follow the Skopos rule,coherence rule,fidelity rule and loyalty rule.The standardization of the translation of public signs in Suzhou will promote and highlight its culture.
