The network switching paradigm has been undergoing an array of evolutionary shift: from circuit switching to packet switching, from software switching to hardware switching, from single service switching to multi-service switching. The multi-service broadband switching technology entails the support of protocol mechanisms, such as service differentiation, network resources reservation, and customer traffic supervision etc. The prevailing broadband switching network technologies include gigabit Ethernet, gigabit router network and ATM network. In the end, the principles and structures of the multi-service broadband packet switched network have been expounded.
