摘要
《红字》是美国浪漫主义作家霍桑的代表作,历来受到评论家的青睐。文章选择了一个全新的视角,以表现主义为切入点,分析了《红字》这部小说中扭曲的现实和内心的真实、类型化的人物、象征的手法和寓言式的故事等表现主义特征,发掘了这部作品中的现代性,开拓了《红字》研究的新疆域,同时证实了文学思潮的继承性。
The Scarlet Letter, a masterpiece written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, has been favored by many critics for centuries. But for a long time, the study of this novel is still restricted to the former researchers' interest, and is in want of breakthrough and creation. With expressionism as a new point of view, this paper aims at analyzing the expressionist features in The Scarlet Letter, including distorted reality and inner reality, stereotyped characters, symbolism and allegoric story. The study of this paper explores the modernity of this novel, develops a new area of the study of it, and confirms the succession of literary tendencies.
