A New Process for Forming Tube and Bar Products of Composites Without Second Forming

摘要 在实验研究的基础上,开发出一种用短纤维增强铝、锌复合材料管、棒材的新工艺。采用该工艺,仅需制备出增强预制体,便可一次成形出多种规格的复合材料管、棒材类制品,其强度及弹性模量比未增强材料均有较大提高,为复合材料管、棒、型材的制备开辟了一条新路。 The existing processes for shaping composites cannot directly form tube, bar and shape products. We present a new process——liquid infiltrating extrusion process, which does not require second forming. Such a process can be used to produce tube, or bar products of metal matrix composite reinforced by short fibers. We have not found any report of similar processes in the open literatures. We did experiments by combining continuous casting and squeeze casting with extrusion, using Al 2O 3 short fibers as reinforcing material, and two kinds of Al alloy and one kind of Zn alloy as metal matrix material. We only need to prepare the fiber preform as well as the liquid metal, and we can finish the infiltration and extrusion in the same step according to the process parameters given in Table 1. Then the tube or bar products of composites can be formed as shown in Fig.1. From the microfractograph (Fig.2) and the metallograph (Fig.3) of a bar formed by using our new process, we can see that very few Al 2O 3 fibers are pulled out; fiber orientation is random; and bonding intensity of the interface is strong. A lot of experiments show that the larger the pressure is applied, the denser and more uniform the material is.
