Agnes Smedley:An American Left-wing Writer and Her Yan'an Trip in 1937

1937年,史沫特莱在遭到共产国际驱逐的情况下,试图主动融入红色延安。她力图改进延安的文化生活和人际关系,但是收效甚微。延安高度政治化、军事化的社会环境所造成的个人空间的缺失以及中、美文化交流渠道不畅,是她的行动受阻的主要原因。而由她发起的交际舞活动所引发的冲突,只是她与延安革命妇女之间矛盾的爆发点。

Being expelled by the Comintern in 1937,Agnes Smedley tried her best to join in Red Yan＇an.She intended to improve the cultural life and the interpersonal relationships of Yan＇an,but failed.The main obstacle she herself could not overcome is the highly political and martial sphere that had obscured the privacy as well as the absence of cultural exchange between Yan＇an and America.This led to her burning contradiction with the Red women of Yan＇an.Caused by her teaching the high military commanders in Yan＇an to dance,the conflict between her,Lily Wu and Madam Mao is just a little spark.
