A Study on Cultivation of Modern Consciousness of the Chinese Ethnic Groups

民族的自我认同通常以血缘、语言、习俗、信仰等的共性为基础,共同的生活方式形成了民族成员之间较为牢固的情感纽带,也形成了民族成员内向、保守的思维与行动倾向。固守这些历史记忆并不利于民族地区自身对现代化进程的适应并获得发展,而面向现代价值、形成现代意识则有助于在民族成员中形成新的记忆并超越原有的认同,由此而产生的新的整合力与凝聚力必将使民族和国家获得良性发展。

The self-identity of a nation is usually based on its common blood,language,customs,beliefs,and so on.Its common life style forms a comparatively strong emotional tie among national members,and also it shapes the introverted and conservative thinking patterns and behavioral tendency of its members.However,by sticking tenaciously to these historical memories,a nation won＇t easily adapt itself to the process of modernization and can hardly develop rapidly.On the contrary,by facing modern values and forming modern consciousness,a nation will be able to form new memories among its members and transcend its original identity.A newly integrated and cohesive force produced thereby will certainly promote the healthy development of a nation or a country.
