本文简要介绍了美国网络远程教育的历史和现状，分析了网络远程教育在美国蓬勃发展的原因及其质量保证。文章着重讨论了专家对于网络远程教育的批判、网络远程教育是否赢利的问题以及美国网络远程教育对于具有中国特色的外语网络远程教育的启发。

By introducing the present situation of university distance education in the United States, this paper analyzes the causes of its vigorous development as well as its quality assurance practice. Criticisms from relevant scholars are discussed, which question the quality of distance education and the issue of profit in this area. The paper also offers reflections on the development of Chinese foreign language distance education and suggests issues which should be dealt with in the Chinese context.
