A Reinterpretation of WILL+V-Φ in Conditional If-Clauses

本文从认知的角度探讨IF条件分句中will+v-Φ的语义,对条件分句中will+v-Φ语义的隐喻化拓展作出合理的解释。隐喻化现象存在于将来时性的条件分句中。当will+v-Φ原有的语法意义不足以表达新的概念时,will+v-Φ通过隐喻模式与其语法意义得到了统一,从而使其语法意义得到了拓展。

This paper discusses the metaphorization process in the expansion of the grammatical meaning of will＋v-Φ in conditional if-clauses from a cognitive perspective and draws an explanatory conclusion of the cognitive relationship between the form and meaning of will＋v-Φ in conditional clauses.This paper argues that grammatical metaphorization subsists within conditional clauses of futurity.When the original grammatical meaning of will＋v-Φ is no longer effective in expressing new concepts or categories,it is the process of metaphorization that helps to bring about the unity of otherwise conflicting form and meaning,thus expanding its grammatical meaning.
