The Jewish elements in George Eliot's last novel Daniel Deronda have been fiercely attacked by traditional criticism, but if we view them from the perspective of cultural studies,we will find that Eliot has chosen this subject deliberately. She explores the 'otherness' of Jews in the Christian society and their efforts to build their ethnic and cultural identity in an age of transformation, thus reflecting Eliot's humanistic concern and her political sensitivity.
