网络安全是目前计算机网络运行和发展的首要问题，在众多安全防护技术中，防火墙和入侵检测系统是两种较为成熟的技术体系和措施。而独立的防火墙和入侵检测系统都存在一定的缺陷，不能达到全面保护系统的目标。所以将二者结合起来，共同保护系统的网络安全，就成为了保证网络安全的技术从单一系统相联动系统过渡的突破口。
