Objective To observe the expression of Foxp3 and Tim-3 and serum level of IFN-γ in PBMCs of hepatitis B patients and healthy individuals, and to explore the possible role of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in the chronic procedure of hepatitis B.Methods The expression of Foxp3 and Tim-3 in PBMCs of hepatitis B patients and healthy individuals were determined by RT-PCR,and the serum level of IFN-γ was detected by ELISA.Results No statistically significant difference was found in the expression of Foxp3 between acute hepatitis B patients and healthy individuals(P0.01).As compared with healthy individuals, the expression of Foxp3 in acute hepatitis B patients was decreased(P0.01),moreover,the serum level of IFN-γ was increased(P0.05).The expression of Foxp3 and Tim-3 in chronic hepatitis B patients was significantly higher than that in healthy individuals(P0.01),but the serum level of IFN-γ was decreased. Conclusions In this study,we found that CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells showed the stronger activity in chronic hepatitis B patients, which indicated they might play an important role in the chronic procedure of hepatitis B with suppressing Th1 and humoral response to hepatitis B virus.
