Will Wu Ying die? Thirty years old this year,Wu Ying has celebrated her past five birthdays behind bars as this year also marks her fourth year at the Jinhua City detention center. Her downfall was almost as fast as her meteoric rise.In 2006,this young woman from Dongyang, Zhejiang Province made a name for herself almost overnight,establishing 8 industrial companies and working to raise several hundred million yuan for planned hotel,wedding shop,real estate,delivery and other business ventures.That year's Hurun Report estimated her net-worth at 3.8 billion yuan, leading the source of her wealth to become that year's greatest mystery. 10 months later in February of 2007,Wu Ying was detained by the Dongyang Public Security Bureau on charges of illegal fund-raising.Later that same year,prosecutors charged her with financial fraud which led to her receiving a death sentence in 2009.In 2010,Wu Ying appealed her sentence. In April of this year Wu Ying pleaded guilty to the original illegal fund-raising charges,however still continued to deny the charges of fraud. The second trial has been going on for three months now and a verdict has yet to been made.As her former success fades into the past,the newest question on everyone's minds is this:Can she avoid the death sentence? Wu Ying is waiting for this answer;as is her family,her creditors and perhaps Death itself.
