The progress of flame retardant technology abroad is reviewed in the following aspects: 1. High performance inorganic flame retardants and non-halogenaed flame retardant techniques; 2. Ultra-fine antimony-based flame retardants and their substitutes; 3. Intumescence techniques; 4. Smoke elimination techniques; 5. Polymeric bromine-based flame retardants; 6. Trends of phosphorus-based flame retardants; and 7. Other new flame retardation techniques.
