近年来,一步法制甲醇有部分氧化法、光化学蒸汽转化法和光电化学结合的直接转化法等,其中部分氧化法在经济上能与汽油生产相竞争,成本比目前的两步法低20%;光电化学结合的直接转化法与两步法相比,不需要高温、高压和催化剂,能耗和成本都较低。这两种方法都值得重视。
